The Question You’ve All Been Asking

When can I get the DVD?!? (or one of the variations) When can I get the Bluray?!??When can I watch it digitally?!? When do I get my contributor copy?!?!?! Making a movie is more than a full time job and then once it’s finished you have to switch into promotion/marketing and various other modes to get people excited about the film or let them know that it exists. This time last year we were focused on film festival submissions. Then we moved... Read More

Shifting to Plan C

We have made tremendous strides since July on the music licensing portion of our filmmaking process. Our music supervisor has been in the trenches negotiating deals to keep our costs low on the sync rights for our drum corps movie. Most of the agreements were secured when we received the news that we weren’t going to get the rights to one of the songs…probably the biggest song in the movie. We knew that this song (performed by the Madison... Read More

BATTLE OF THE DECADES!

Which decade of the Madison Scouts is the best? Both alumni and fans of the corps have very strong opinions. That’s because they are very passionate about the activity and there’s nothing wrong with that. We’ve decided to pin the different decades of the corps (alumni & fans) against each other to see which one can get a popular Madison Scouts song that appears in our movie funded the fastest. The race started on August 13th... Read More

“Best Documentary” at the FLY Film Festival!

The first film festival screenings of the movie, a new IndieGoGo campaign, and Mr. Smith goes to Indianapolis! Two and a half years ago we started fundraising for the “Scouts Honor: Inside a Marching Brotherhood” project via a campaign on the IndieGoGo website. It was extremely successful and served as the launching off point for the production of the film. The movie has now been shot, edited, and is currently making the film festival... Read More

A Readjustment

A number of you have been asking when our drum corps movie is going to be released. As of six months ago we were sure that the film would have been released by this date. Unfortunately that hasn?t happened. We knew that the three toughest parts of this filmmaking process would be the shooting, the editing and the music licensing.   After 14 separate trips spread out over 25 months we completed the production portion of the film in August 2013.... Read More

Bi-Coastal Documentary Filmmakers Reunite

Tom Tollefsen & Mac Smith discuss the deleted scenes for their documentary feature Many of you may not know that directing/producer partners Tom Tollefsen and Mac Smith live on opposite coasts of the United States. It certainly makes it challenging to create a film when there’s so much distance between partners, but technology has helped break down that barrier. Google+ Hangout video conferencing, sharing documents via Google Drive, email... Read More

Two Steps Forward & One Step Back

In post production there are a lot of steps required to finish a film and our team has been working hard towards the completion of “Scouts Honor: Inside a Marching Brotherhood”. While the picture cut of the movie is now officially “locked” quite a few steps have to happen before the film can be released including: titles, music, sound, coloring, artwork, technical prep, etc. We all have day jobs that we are managing while this... Read More

Refining the Story

As we near picture lock on our documentary feature film we have to step back and look at the big picture. ?Are we still telling the story that we want to tell? Does the structure of the film work with a beginning, middle and end? We’ve taken scenes out, put some of them back in, rearranged them, made them shorter, created new scenes….all things to make the movie the best we can. ?There’s certainly a specific timeline in a drum corps... Read More

Reflecting Back & Moving Forward

The end of the year is a good time to assess what’s been achieved and what’s still left to be done. ?We’ve made great strides over the last 12 months with the documentary. While we had the majority of the footage shot before this time last year, none of it had been edited together. Our post production interns were organizing the media by synchronizing audio to video and adding valuable metadata to make it easier to find the necessary... Read More

Nisei Challenge Update

We are thrilled to announce that our goal of $3000 has been reached! The Nisei Ambassadors have matched that dollar for dollar which brings the campaign total to $6000. ?When this campaign was planned we set the end date for Sunday, December 22nd. ?Even though we reached the matching goal we are continuing the campaign through the end date to raise additional funds for finishing the film. Here’s Mac Smith to tell you more about the last days... Read More
