Two Steps Forward & One Step Back

CedarburgSnaresIn post production there are a lot of steps required to finish a film and our team has been working hard towards the completion of “Scouts Honor: Inside a Marching Brotherhood”. While the picture cut of the movie is now officially “locked” quite a few steps have to happen before the film can be released including: titles, music, sound, coloring, artwork, technical prep, etc. We all have day jobs that we are managing while this work on the documentary is getting done during nights and weekends. The majority of the people helping us on the film have been generously donating their time to the project, in part because they believe in what we’re doing and know how passionate we are about the subject matter, but also because our release plans include giving proceeds from the film to both the Madison Scouts and to high school band programs across the USA.

We’re happy to announce that a portion of the proceeds from DVD & Blu-ray sales will go back to the Madison Scouts drum & bugle corps, the organization that truly shaped us into the people that we are today. The Scouts organization has been incredibly supportive of our documentary from it’s inception and it’s the least we can do.

Also, with our theatrical on demand release plans, we are reaching out to high school band programs to do one-night-only screenings in their local movie theater. These screenings are completely fan driven and anyone in the USA can request them, but they will only happen if enough tickets are pre-sold for each showing. We imagine that if the majority of kids in one of the bands purchase tickets along with parents and friends then they won’t have any problem making the screening happen. A portion of the proceeds from a given screening will go back to the band that organized that screening.

We’ve been wanting to announce specific dates for when these theatrical on demand screenings will begin (and when you can sign up for them) as well as the DVD, Blu-ray and Video on Demand releases, but there have been some unforeseen obstacles that we need to conquer before we can make any of those announcements. We’re continuing to push forward to get through these road blocks. Our fans have been incredibly patient throughout this process and we are very grateful. We’re as anxious to get the movie out as you are to see it. ?Unfortunately you’ll have to wait a little bit longer before those plans are announced.

Some of you have asked about our email newsletter, and why we haven’t sent anything out for quite a while. We were waiting to alert you about more solid release plans, but we will definitely make that newsletter a more regular thing.

We’re continually searching for more people, organizations, and companies to assist in our plans. If you know someone who can lend a hand (maybe it’s someone who’s passionate about music education and has the means to connect us with band programs across the USA), please let them know about our film. If you know bloggers, journalists, or podcasters who would be interested in letting their audiences know about the drum corps activity and our film, please connect them with us.

The project has been fan-driven and crowd-sourced from the start and it will continue that way through it’s release. This film has the chance to help all of the organizations in the drum corps activity, and the marching arts.?Together we can spread the word about the drum corps subculture and the positive things it can do for young people.

Thank you,

Mac & Tom
